Windows 10 Is Retiring! Here's What You Need to Know

Heads up! After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will officially say goodbye to Windows 10. That means no more free security updates, bug fixes, or tech support. Your computer won’t explode, but it also won’t be as safe or reliable as it used to be.

So what does this mean for business owners (and smart people who don’t like cyber headaches)? Let’s break it down.

Why This Matters (Like, A Lot)

1. Security Nightmares
Without updates, your computer is like a house with no locks. Hackers, viruses, and other digital troublemakers will have an easier time sneaking in. If your business runs on sensitive info, this is a big no-no.

2. Your Software Might Give Up
Lots of programs are designed to play nicely with the newest operating systems. If you’re still on Windows 10 after the deadline, you might notice your favorite apps glitching, freezing, or flat-out refusing to work.

3. Legal and Compliance Woes
If your business has to follow strict rules (like in healthcare, finance, etc.), using outdated software could land you in hot water. Fines, legal issues, and angry emails from regulators? No, thanks.

• Switch to Linux (That’s a totally different operating system. Techie vibes.)
• Do nothing and cross your fingers (We really don’t recommend this one.)

No matter what, BACK UP YOUR STUFF FIRST. Trust us, future-you will thank past-you for being responsible.

What’s This “Extended Support” Thing?

Can’t upgrade right away? Microsoft’s offering a little cushion. It’s called Extended Security Updates (ESU) and it buys you one more year of safety net.

Here’s how you get it:

• Pay $30 or use 1,000 Microsoft Reward points
• OR sign up for free if you turn on Windows Backup and save your files to OneDrive (you get 5 GB free—might need more if you’ve got tons of files)

Either way, you’ve got to register before October 14, 2025 to qualify. Procrastinators, beware!
