Talk To Your Insurance Agent About Flood Insurance

  • February 26, 2025

One thing that we learned from Helene is to expect the unexpected. That's part of what great planning helps us do. We may not nail it all down, but the thought process, the ability to do that, it really helps us. One thing that no one expected in North Carolina. was flooding. And so as a result, what we have is unfortunately with the catastrophe that's going on up there, they don't have flood insurance.

You may think this is one on one. I am saying, no, this is a little bit more advanced. Talk to your insurance agent, talk to your property and casualty person. I want you to consider looking at flood insurance. Let me give you one other thing as a twist on this. If you're looking at new office digs, consider what the floodplain looks like.

And not just the floodplain, just consider what the drainage situation is. Talk to a neighbor if you're going into a building. Why? Because you do not want to deal with that if you don't have to. So if you can just find a place that's just a little bit higher than the rest of it, you are going to be fine.

Do that for yourself and for your business. That, that kind of planning is really, really critical if you can do it. Thanks.
