Every business owner should be asking their IT professional three key questions to ensure that their backups are okay. Number one, are they taking place? And how do you know?
Number two, how long will it take to restore if we need to? Not restore a file to restore everything. The time to restore a file oftentimes is very quick. The time to restore everything sometimes will bog down to where it will take weeks to months. And you, you need to know that, which means it needs to be tested.
And that leads us to the last thing. What is our testing plan to validate both of these on a weekly, monthly, quarterly basis, whatever you feel that you ought to be doing. I would suggest what we do is we test every backup daily. We have a human check that back up every month. That's our minimum standards.
